DIGITAL SCRAPBOOKING, huh?!

What is digital scrapbooking?  It has become an event, a new market and a new love.  I have been scrapbooking for over 15 years, but my new thing is scrapping digitally.  It is a new way to preserve your memories.  Much like scrapbooking, digitally scrapping is done exclusively on the computer.  Scrapbookers no longer need to spend exorbitant prices for their scrapbooking supplies because digital scrapbooking is less expensive, plus there are a lot of  sites on the internet that offer tons of freebies.  And who doesn’t appreciate something for free!

 

The initial cost of digital scrapbooking is getting a great software program for your computer and then a printer that will give you optimal printing excellence.  Once you have these two tools, you are set!  I will be covering the best options for a software program and printer later.

 

A good digital scrapbooking program will allow you to use other products that you can get from many websites, or you can create your own!  The sky is the limit!  Digital scrapbooking doesn’t limit you to just creating pages either, you can create cards, craft projects, calendars, handouts, fliers, etc. 

 

I love to sit after a busy day and work on my laptop while I am watching TV.  I get lots of scrapbooking done during this time.  This way I don’t feel like I am just wasting my time while I watch TV.  Every other Sunday we have our family over for dinner and we love to watch the pages I have created with my computer.  This is a wonderful way to relive our family memories.  This would be a fun get together idea with friends also.  The options are limitless!

Scrapbook Paper

Scrapbooks are an aid to ones memory. You do not know for how many years you will add to them. But you can safely assume it will be a very long time. Scrapbook paper, therefore, needs to last long. It should be good to use and perhaps even be attractive at the same time and be pleasing to the eye. So while choosing the scrapbook paper you have to follow a simple rule, it should be acid-free and lignin free.   

Factors to consider while buying paper

Scrapbooks should be handy when you need them. You have to carry them. So choose a size that is convenient and suits your purpose. Commonly available sizes are 6×6, 8×8, 8 ½ x11, and 12×12. Scrapbook paper may be thin which is available in large multi-packs or if you want it durable, it may be thick which is available as cardstock. You should carefully choose the manufacturer. Preferably stay with a single style and brand if it meets your requirement. Price of paper varies from cheap $0.10 per sheet to $ 1 per sheet or more for better ones.  

Paper types 

Solid paper which is available in black, white or other colors too, is suitable as scrapbook paper for backgrounds, photo mats etc.. A pack of 5 sheets usually costs $1. Patterned paper is suitable for layouts of documents, stamps, pictures etc. It may be single sided of which one side has a pattern and the other is white. Double sided paper may have patterns on both the sides or a pattern on one side and color on the other. The latter costs more. The paper may be smooth or textured. Textured surface has a linen like look and gives a professional appearance to your layout. Cardstock paper is thick and serves as a base in your book. It is available in various sizes to meet your requirement. Rice paper and mulberry paper is also used. They can be obtained from any craft store. Papyrus paper is heavier and coarse from which lanterns are also made. However rice paper & mulberry paper do not last long and are difficult to work with.  

So when choosing scrapbook paper be very careful and use what best fits your style.

Cutting Paper Costs. You can save costs by using a paper size that meets your need and yet there is no wastage. For example you may find there is more efficient paper usage in a 8 ½ x 11 size than for a 12 x 12 size paper.

Save on scrapbook embellishments. They are fun and great to look at but can end up being the main cost head without really adding to the information contained in the scrapbook. Although I love to scrapbook the traditional way just as much I want to teach a little more on what a digital scrapbook really is and how it can change your view on Scrapbooking. Scrapbooking paper creates the background for your precious photographs and scraps that bring to life wonderful memories. It is in fact the binding factor in your scrapbook and should be chosen with due care and thought.You would want your scrapbook to last for years to come. The best way to ensure this is by choosing acid-free and lignin-free scrapbooking paper. You may choose to use scrapbooking paper in a single color or select a patterned kind.
